Papillo phorcas (Apple Green Swallowtail)

Meet Papillo phorcas, shot by Ojonugwa Ekpah.

This species are hardly seen in human disturbed areas and not even areas around Lagos. It is absent from many forests that seems suitable Males often come near water and to dung. The type of non-metallic green pigment in the species is quite rare in butterflies and in Africa, it is only found in the species and Pseudacraea semire (Larsen, 2005). This species was sighted at Afi Wildlife Sanctuary near the area the drill monkeys are protected in January, 2021.
